As an Admin User, you’ll have access to your admin area. Here you can create new studies and gain insights by generating reports or exporting data. Next, let’s talk about those studies!
You can create two types of studies in ZooMonitor: Projects and Surveys. Projects include traditional behavior observations using standardized sampling protocols. Surveys are single time-point assessments on an animal.
ZooMonitor features built-in analytics tools to help you answer your questions quickly. For example, you can view how animals use their space, or check reliability between your observers. If you need to dig deeper, you can export your data for manual analysis.
ZooMonitor makes it easy to manage your growing number of studies. You can view your assigned observers and review when observations are happening. You can also manage your account by setting special privelages for your admins.
You can join and create multi-institutional studies, all in ZooMonitor! Amazing, right? Check out the Community section to learn more. If you just want to keep your data internal, don’t worry - your studies and data are only available to you by default.
With Projects, you can record behavior during observations using standardized sampling methods. ZooMonitor is flexible and allows you to customize your Projects to address your specific questions.
Previous NextAs an Observer, you’ll have access to the app. Here you can easily record data on your studies and review study material. Next, let’s talk about how you record data in ZooMonitor!
For Projects, you first enter independent variables (i.e., weather, crowd size, etc.), then can quickly record data by tapping behavior tiles or plotting locations on maps. Surveys are simpler and let you select a choice from dropdown menus.
Before starting your observations, you can review study materials, including behavior definitions and habitat map images. During your session, you can also view your behavior definitions, and descriptions or photos of your individuals.
Mistakes are bound to happen but it’s important to keep your data as accurrate as possible. You can easily edit your behavior observations to fix mistakes before uploading to your admin area (don’t worry, you can also fix mistakes there too!).
ZooMonitor is a web app that can work offline. This means you will need to frequently download your updated study configurations manually to your device. Once you’ve recorded data, you’ll need to upload those sessions off the device to the cloud.
